Saranac Gets Canned!

Saranac, celebrating 125 years of brewing this year, boasts state-of-the-art canning operations on site. With flexibility for both 12- or 16-ounce can options, this innovative canning line ensures the same high-quality taste as a bottle.

“Our canning operations allow us to give our customers the same distinctive taste as the bottle alternative,” said company President Fred Matt. “The four most-exciting things about our cans are that they preserve the beer by protecting it from light; take less energy to produce, ship and recycle; have a taste-free liner; and keep more oxygen out with a tighter seal.”

As a special thank you to customers, a bonus pint of canned Legacy IPA is now available along with specially marked 125th Anniversary Celebration packages of Pale Ale and White IPA.

Legacy IPA: Inspired by their founder’s original recipe for one of the first American IPAs, this beer features a blend of historic, traditional, and innovative hops for a heavenly aroma and full-bodied flavor. Pair it with curry, Thai, dry rubbed ribs, jerk chicken or pork, and Stilton, aged cheddar, and Gorgonzola cheeses. (60 IBUs and 6.5 percent ABV)

Pale Ale: A Saranac staple, this was the first competition Pale Ale was entered in after the brewery recently updated the brewing process for this classic favorite. Their new “Hop Infusion Process” maximizes beer to hop exposure for a fresher taste.  This well-balanced beer has a crisp finish. Pair it with burgers, bread pudding, and cheddar cheese. (32 IBUs and 5.5 percent ABV)

White IPA: Orange peel and coriander pair with wheat malt and oats for a refreshing twist on the traditional IPA. Pair it with spicy foods, citrus salads, and bleu cheese. (50 IBUs and 6 percent ABV)

Green Flash Selects VA Beach Developer to Build New Brewery

Project Will Employ 250+ Virginia Beach Residents

August 6, 2013 Today, co-founders of Green Flash Brewing Co., Mike and Lisa Hinkley, announce that Virginia Beach-based developers, The Miller Group, will lead both development and construction of the Green Flash East Coast brewery in Virginia Beach (located at Corporate Landing and General Booth Blvd).  Green Flash execs selected The Miller Group because of the company’s solid history as a Virginia Beach-based developer with fully integrated capabilities and extensive experience in building industrial and manufacturing facilities.  The Miller Group’s community connections will ensure that subcontracting and other project needs will be primarily outsourced to Virginia Beach locals, another determining factor that was of importance to the Green Flash team.

The Miller Group estimates that more than250 Virginia Beach area residents will have a hand in building the 58,000-square-foot brewing facility from groundbreaking to finish.  After the construction is complete, Green Flash will create permanent jobs for more than 40 people in the region.  Surrounding the project is positive speculation on the long-term economic benefits that the city and residents of Virginia Beach will reap from the Green Flash brewery’s presence.

Oregon Brewers Festival Summary

A record 85,000 people celebrated the 26th annual Oregon Brewers Festival

PORTLAND, Ore. – July 31, 2013 – A record 85,000 people traveled from all parts of the world to celebrate the 26th consecutive Oregon Brewers Festival (OBF) this past weekend. The event, which opened on a Wednesday for the first time ever, took place July 24 through July 28 at Tom McCall Waterfront Park in downtown Portland.
A notable change to this year’s event was the switch to a tasting glass following 25 years of serving into a plastic mug. Despite consumer concerns of broken glass, there were very few issues on-site, and the response to the switch by the consumer was overwhelmingly positive.
“Beer should be enjoyed in a glass; it allows the consumer to fully enjoy the sight, smell and taste of the beer,” said Larrance. He added that the festival will continue to use a tasting glass in the future.

The Oregon Brewers Festival was founded in 1988 as an opportunity to expose the public to microbrews at a time when the craft brewing industry was just getting off the ground. Today, that industry has succeeded, especially in Oregon, where 137 brewing companies operate 175 brewing facilities in 59 cities in Oregon. There are 51 breweries operating within the Portland city limits, more than any other city in the world. The 2012 Oregon Brewers Festival generated an economic impact of $30 million for the local economy.

The Oregon Brewers Festival always takes place the last full weekend in July. The 27th annual event will take place July 23 through July 27, 2014. For more information, visit
