World Beer Cup
First held in June of 1996 in Vail, CO, the biannual World Beer Cup is produced and presented by the Association of Brewers. The competition was prompted by brewers outside the United States who wanted to know why they could not enter their beers in the Professional Panel Blind Tasting at the Great American Beer Festival (GABF).

On the Brewers Association website:
“As consumer choices expand, the availability of information becomes more important. With this in mind, the Brewers Association developed the World Beer Cup® International Competition in 1996 to celebrate the art and science of brewing by recognizing outstanding achievement.”
“Every two years, a highly qualified professional panel of beer judges honors the top three beers in 70+ categories with gold, silver, and bronze awards. The World Beer Cup, often referred to as "The Olympics of Beer Competition," is the most prestigious beer competition in the world.”
“In 1996, the first World Beer Cup, there were 600 beers entered from 250 breweries in 20 countries. This inaugural competition was held in Vail, Colorado, U.S.A.”
