20th Century Shuts
Down Kiwi “Duff”
Wednesday December 5 -- The makers of The
Simpsons, 20th Century Fox, has finally forced
Duffs Brewery in Dunedin, New Zealand, to change
its name.
In a story filed today on the Ananova Limited
news service, the Duffs Brewery now goes by the
name McDuffs, “…to avoid confusion with the
fictional Duff beer portrayed in The Simpsons.”
Brewery owner Gavin Duff is quoted as saying:
"I always thought the letter might come one day.”
He went to to be quoted as saying, “What it
boiled down to was small guys like us don't have
enough money to fight big guys like them."

1) What is a
"Holiday Beer"?
1) What is your favorite "Holiday Beer"?
1) I always
think of "holiday beers," as big, meaty, celebration beers. Of
course, my brother thinks Coors Light is the perfect holiday beer. I guess you
have them in all families - right?
2) One of my favorite holiday beers, "Scaldis Noel," comes from the
Dubuisson brewery in Pipaix, Belgium. Dubuisson has been brewing since 1769,
and Scaldis Noel is their masterpiece - in my humble opinion. At 12 percent
alcohol-by-volume, it is the strongest beer made in Belgium (?). This beer is
chewy, yet not perceivably heavy. It is sweet, but not cloying like many
holiday brews, and Scaldis Noel has a dry, spicy, nutty finish. When you gently
warm this elixir to 68°-70°F before serving it in front of the fire, the sugars
from the three different malts explode like brilliant fireworks on your tongue
before being brought under control and finally balanced by incredible roasted
nut and spice notes that dry beautifully in the long brandy-like finish.
Cheers! - Terry Soloman

Subject: Re: HOT TRUB/BEER BASICS Vol. 002 No. 046 28 November 2001
Peter, we in the industry know in our hearts
that chicken wings are the best
bar food ever. Without them a generation of beer salesmen and brewery
reps
would have perished from malnutrition while waiting for the bar manager or
beverage buyer to grant them an audience. Wings come in a huge variety of
preparations and descriptions that keep the experience of these formerly
humble and shunned gastronomic delights novel and interesting from bar to
bar. My hat's off to the culinary genius/shameless huckster that saved the
first crate of frozen wings from the dog food plant or fertilizer factory and
then had the audacity to present them as fit for human consumption. As a
founding member of the IBWW(international brotherhood of wing warriors) I can
state that my tenure in the beer industry would have been inestimably
colorless and deprived were it not for the universal availability and
abundance of this truly remarkable comestible.

hefty 7.2% abv.
"However, not only does the Double Bastard Ale up the
ante to 10%, it¹s a
true palate destroyer as well. (??????)
I get more and more emails every day from
fans that are chomping at the bit for the release!"
