AB Donates 1 Million To New York City Red
Cross
ST. LOUIS,
Mo.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 12, 2001--In response to Tuesday's terrorist
incidents, the Anheuser-Busch Foundation announced today it is donating $1
million to the American Red Cross in Greater New York for relief efforts to aid
victims in the New York metropolitan area. The foundation is the charitable arm
of Anheuser-Busch Companies, Inc. (NYSE:BUD).
"Like
all Americans, we are shocked by the tragic and violent terrorist attack on our
country," said John E. Jacob, executive vice president and chief
communications officer, Anheuser-Busch Companies, Inc. "We share in the
grief for the victims, their families, relatives and friends of Tuesday's
horrible events. In times like these, we all become neighbors," he added.
In response
to Red Cross requests for donors, Anheuser-Busch is also encouraging employees
to donate blood at Red Cross facilities across the country.
In addition
to the monetary donation, Anheuser-Busch donated 9,500 cases of canned water to
aid the victims and rescue workers in New York City. The Salvation Army and the
American Red Cross are distributing the water. The water was canned at the
Anheuser-Busch Cartersville, Ga. brewery, and Metal Container Corporation in
Rome, Ga., a subsidiary of Anheuser-Busch Companies, supplied the cans.
"The
American Red Cross is working around the clock to ensure that those affected by
the tragedies have comfort and care," said John Clizbe, vice president of
Disaster Services for the American Red Cross. "We are grateful that so
many Americans, including those from corporate America, have demonstrated a
willingness to help the Red Cross provide immediate relief to everyone who has
been touched by these catastrophic events."
Headquartered
in St. Louis, Anheuser-Busch Companies is a diversified international
corporation with interest in beer, packaging and family entertainment. Its
subsidiaries include Anheuser-Busch, Inc., the world's largest brewer, whose
products include Budweiser and Bud Light, the two largest-selling beer brands
in the world.
Other
subsidiaries include Busch Entertainment Corporation, which operates nine theme
parks in the United States and Metal Container Corporation. Other subsidiary
business interests range from creative services to railcar repair and

this and other disasters, contributions can be made to the American Red Cross
Disaster Relief Fund by calling 800/HELP-NOW or 800/257-7575 (Spanish).

Publishers to Buy American Brewer Magazine

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Brewing News Publishers to Buy American Brewer Magazine
Alexandria, VA—Bill Owens has agreed
to sell American Brewer magazine to Bill Metzger and Jim Dorsch, two veteran
beer journalists who,
together and with others, publish
five regional beer newspapers. "It is time for me to step aside. I gave it
17 good years," says Owens.
Metzger and Dorsch will start their
tenure with the winter issue, to be published in January 2002.
Owens has published American Brewer
since 1986, and will conduct all business affairs pertaining to its operation through the fall 2001
issue.
"I'm thrilled to carry this
fine magazine's mission forward," says Metzger.
That mission is to cover business
issues facing small- to medium-size brewers.
The new publishers plan to focus
hard on the mission, but will take care to maintain the quirky, irreverent
style for which the magazine is known.
Editor Greg Kitsock, who also edits
Mid-Atlantic Brewing News, will keep brewers apprised of the latest trends in
this rapidly changing business.
"American Brewer is all about
the business of beer," says Kitsock. "We intend to provide
information that will help our readers stay at the forefront and succeed."
American Brewer will publish four
quarterly issues in 2002, plus the Annual Buyer's Guide in December 2002.
After the fall 2001 issue is
published, American Brewer's business operations will start to make the
transition to Alexandria, VA.
The magazine's business address will
be POB 20268, Alexandria, VA 22320-1268. Phone: 703.567.1962.

TEAM FULL
SAIL TAKES FIRST IN BREWER'S CUP SOAPBOX DERBY
Portland, Oregon - In a come from behind victory, the Full Sail Brewing
Company won the Brewer's Cup and took fifth overall in a car driven by
brewmaster Matt Swihart at the PDX Adult Soapbox Derby on Sunday, August
26th at Mt. Tabor Park.
The Derby, sponsored by Beulahland Ale and Coffehouse, The
Mercury, and
Rogue, The New Old Lompoc, Bridgeport Ale, and Full Sail Breweries, sported
37 cars of wildly differing designs. The Full Sail team put together a
car
of two Full Sail kegs, which Swihart sat in, surrounded by a copper tubing
frame on mountain bike wheels with Full Sail bottle openers for brakes.
Other designs included everything from beds to tricycles to coffins.
Christened "Full Speed Ale", the car is proudly on display in the
Full Sail
brewhouse in Hood River. (PHOTO AVAILABLE BY REQUEST)
The course followed a 0.9 mile route down Mt. Tabor through
two S-curves and
a hairpin turn. In addition to the brewer's cup, awards were given to the
top three finishers, best costume, best engineering, lame duck (slowest
car), trike bike, art car, and the poker run in which the driver picked up
cards on the course. The car with the best poker hand won. There
was only
one injury during the event; it was caused by a rollover on the last run of
the day. After a trip to the hospital, it was determined that the driver
would be fine but was kept overnight for observation.
Full Sail's car had been disqualified at the time trials
held a month before
the race due to inadequate steering and brakes. However, team Full Sail
pulled together to fix those problems in the ensuing weeks. With a few
last
minute modifications involving duct tape and bailing wire, Swihart improved
their rank from 26th to 5th based on average time for the 5 heats the car
raced on Sunday. In the words of the Beulahland race director,
"Full Sail
kicks ass". No doubt the gauntlet has been thrown down at the feet
of other
Portland area breweries and Full Sail will be the team to beat at next
year's soapbox derby. (Submitted by Mary Peters)

FULL SAIL
BREWING RECONIZED FOR SAFETY ACHIEVEMENT
(Hood
River, Oregon) Full Sail Brewing Company has been awarded with a SHARP
(Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program) certificate of
achievement by the Administrator of Oregon OSHA (Occupational Safety and
Health Administration). SHARP is an Oregon OSHA program that recognizes
employers who work with their employees and OSHA to find and correct
workplace hazards and who implement effective safety programs. The overall
goal is to reduce work related injuries, to encourage continuous improvement
in workplace safety and to provide a model for others to follow.
Full Sail Brewing is the only Oregon brewery to
receive SHARP recognition to
date. According to David L. Sparks, Deputy Administrator for Oregon OSHA, of
the over 75,000 Oregon businesses only 65 businesses are SHARP participants.
Full Sail
is pro-active on safety and health issues, placing a strong
emphasis on safe work practices. The employee-owners play an active role by
participating on or working with the Safety Committee. This committee is
comprised of individuals from various departments within the company, who
meet regularly to review and resolve safety issues throughout the facility.
Through cooperation and open communication, Full Sail employee / owners have
created a workplace culture where safety is not only a priority, but a core
value as well. For more information on SHARP visit OR-OSHA's website at
http://www.orosha.org
In 1999 Full Sail proudly became an employee-owned
brewery, guaranteeing the
ultimate commitment to quality. The brewery is located in Hood River,
Oregon in the scenic Columbia River Gorge. Founded in 1987, Full Sail has
evolved from a microbrewery to a leading craft brewer producing
approximately 70,000 barrels annually. Despite growth and expansion, Full
Sail has stayed true to its commitment to hands-on brewing and absolute
consistent quality. While many breweries have gone to automated brewing,
Full Sail has adhered to the philosophy that it's the people not the
technology that makes the difference. The company is one of the top five
craft breweries in the Northwest and employs 54 people. Full Sail is the
only brewery to have ever been named to the "Best 100 Companies to Work
For,
in Oregon" list by Oregon Business Magazine and have maintained that
distinction for five consecutive years. Full Sail brews a line of
handcrafted ales and lagers including the award-winning Full Sail Amber,
Pale, India Pale Ale, and a line of seasonal brews. Full Sail is
available
in 14 western states. Visit Full Sail online at www.fullsailbrewing.com.

ASK THE PRESS:
(Edited for spelling, sometimes. Essential response
is unedited.)
This week I once again raise the
issue of beverage alcohol consumption at colleges and universities.
I attended Norwich University ('73), in Northfield, Vermont. The drinking age
was 18 years old.
Beer was available in the "Class Clubs" under the supervision of a
house-mother.
There was also off campus consumption.
The "Class Clubs" provided an ideal way to deter over-consumption.I
regret to say that dining was not an option.
Has anyone heard of an arrangement of this sort in any college or university
today?
Cheers!
