===============================================
Greetings,
Welcome to Beer Basics.com ...
When HOT TRUB was conceived at the Great American Beer Festival in Colorado last year, it focused on the brewing industry and the support industries involved in the production, wholesaling, marketing and retailing of beer. The name HOT TRUBE was a nifty use of brewing jargon.
Last month things began to change.
In the last few weeks, chefs, restaurateurs, beverage managers, journalists representing major newspapers, and editors of consumer and trade magazines have subscribed. Few had any idea of what "trube" was, let alone why it should be "hot" to make it interesting.
As a result I have changed the name to something that is fairly self explanatory. It is the name of my web site.
As of now, this newsletter is probably more interesting than the website. However, in the near future I plan to offer the archives of HOT TRUB, including notes and interviews not included in the original publication. You will be the first to know when this happens.
With BEER BASICS.COM you will find the format similar to HOT TRUB.

Laid Off Guinness Workers Get
Their Beer
In a recent Associated Press report from Dublin, Ireland
-Workers laid off when a Guinness packaging plant closes next
month, have a severance package that includes up to 10 years' free supply
of Guinness.
Under the agreement, the plant's 140 workers will receive
one-time payments of up to $147,000 along with health insurance, scholarships
for their children - and the beer.
``It is a tradition within the industry that employees get a beer
allowance, amounting to around two bottles a day,'' said Pat Barry, director of
corporate affairs for Guinness Ireland.
Two of the three unions at the plant have accepted the offer. A
vote by the third is to be held soon. The plant is scheduled to close at the
end of July.

What’s Brewing in the Nation’s Newspapers?
A quick review of reported news items referring to beer or
breweries as reported by the nations leading newspapers during the last week.
It all started when two young ladies didn’t want to bother
their secret-service escorts and decided to order their drinks themselves.
Staff wigs out at the thought of the secret service being there and call local
cops for back up on a heavy alcohol possession bust(s).
Bush: Girls' troubles are a family matter
By Stewart M. Powell
Hearst Newspapers

WASHINGTON - The White House yesterday tried to drape a
cloak of family privacy around an alcohol-related incident involving President
Bush's twin 19-year-old daughters.
Austin police issued citations to the president's daughters,
charging Jenna Bush with trying to use false identification to buy alcohol and
Barbara Bush with being a minor in possession of alcohol. The drinking age in
Texas is 21.
After all, as we all know, beer is just
the gateway to sex and drugs…
CLINTON TWP. SEX PARTY IS BUSTED SALES OF
BEER, VIAGRA WERE ILLEGAL, COPS SAY
Detroit Free Press (MI)
Published on June 6, 2001

Twenty-five bucks paid for beer and condoms at a motel in
Clinton Township. Sex was free; Viagra was extra. Each Friday night, patrons
crowded into the Best Western and engaged in orgies, according to
investigators. The organizers advertised on the Internet. Couples and women
were admitted to the party for free. The Macomb County Sheriff's office
received a tip about the activity via e-mail May 23 and began investigating.
