Laid Off Guinness Workers Get Their Beer
In a recent
Associated Press report from Dublin, Ireland -Workers laid off when a
Guinness packaging plant closes next month, have a severance package
that includes up to 10 years' free supply of Guinness.
Under
the agreement, the plant's 140 workers will receive one-time payments of
up to $147,000 along with health insurance, scholarships for their children -
and the beer.
``It is a
tradition within the industry that employees get a beer allowance, amounting to
around two bottles a day,'' said Pat Barry, director of corporate affairs for
Guinness Ireland.
Two of the
three unions at the plant have accepted the offer. A vote by the third is to be
held soon. The plant is scheduled to close at the end of July.

What’s Brewing in the Nation’s Newspapers?
A quick
review of reported news items referring to beer or breweries as reported by the
nations leading newspapers during the last week.
It all
started when two young ladies didn’t want to bother their secret-service escorts
and decided to order their drinks themselves. Staff wigs out at the thought of
the secret service being there and call local cops for back up on a heavy
alcohol possession bust(s).
Bush: Girls' troubles are a family matter

WASHINGTON
- The White House yesterday tried to drape a cloak of family privacy around an
alcohol-related incident involving President Bush's twin 19-year-old daughters.
Austin
police issued citations to the president's daughters, charging Jenna Bush with
trying to use false identification to buy alcohol and Barbara Bush with being a
minor in possession of alcohol. The drinking age in Texas is 21.
Well then, you have to keep the drinking at home, and teach
them moderation…

CASA
GRANDE - Casa Grande police are investigating complaints that a City Council
member purchased two kegs of beer for a high school graduation party held
May 18 at his home, according to police reports.
Police
have signed formal complaints in the court of Justice of the Peace Phil Bain,
accusing Councilman Kirk McCarville, 42, and his 18-year-old son, David S.
McCarville, of furnishing alcohol to underage people, the Casa Grande
Dispatch reported.
"I
haven't been charged or served with anything yet," McCarville said.
"Some of what's in the paper is true. Some of it's not, but at this time
I'm not at liberty to say."

Twenty-five
bucks paid for beer and condoms at a motel in Clinton Township. Sex was free;
Viagra was extra. Each Friday night, patrons crowded into the Best Western and
engaged in orgies, according to investigators. The organizers advertised on the
Internet. Couples and women were admitted to the party for free. The Macomb
County Sheriff's office received a tip about the activity via e-mail May 23 and
began investigating.
