THE INTERBREW SAGA GOES ON AND ON

All has not been going well with the Interbrew IPO recently offered. Last Friday Interbrew put over 20 percent of its shares in play. Reuters reported European market experts as saying that “It’s currently a bit too expensive.”

The shadow of Britain's Competition Commission and its review of the Whitbread Plc deal, giving the Belgian company a 32 percent leading share of the UK market.

Another problem that won’t go away is the European Commission findings that Interbrew had operated illegal cartels.

It has been reported that despite the above mentioned problems, Interbrew's IPO has been doing very well. Interbrew will also probably extend its offering until after it finishes the latest publicity blitz in the United States.

AND –

In a piece for Market Watch Terri Allan reports on, “What is believed to be one of the first restaurants in the country to serve its own distilled spirits.”

The Bardenay in Boise, Idaho opened as an upscale restaurant with a focus on quality cocktails late last year. Six months later it is offering its own private-label rum, gin and vodka to its customers.

Naturally, the biggest challenge has been Idaho law, which prohibited an established alcoholic beverage license from producing and selling its own spirits. As it is, in order for Bardenay to sell its spirits to its own patrons, the bottled products must first be sold to the Idaho State Liquor Dispensary (ISLD), where they are warehoused and then delivered to a state store where Bardenay repurchases them to serve at the bar.
