Escondido Brewery Wins Coveted
Orchids & Onions "Peoples Choice" Award

Escondido, San Diego County, CA ---

San Diegans have now had one full year to ooh and ahh at the fabulous atmosphere and architecture while dining and/or quaffing at the Stone World Bistro & Gardens. Finally, thanks to the San Diego Architectural Foundation's annual Orchids & Onions Awards, the people have had a chance to let their collective opinions be heard. And they shouted out the Stone Brewing World Bistro & Gardens as the winner of this year's People's Choice Award, designating the brewing and dining facility as the most uniquely wonderful contribution to the architecture of San Diego County for 2007.

And it wasn't even close: participants cast nearly 80% of their votes in favor of the Stone building and environs.

"The voters were enchanted by the open and airy interior and the seamless indoor/outdoor connection via floor to ceiling glass doors. The element that drew the most attention of voters was the huge outdoor patio and garden animated by waterfalls and fire pits. Stone…is a destination very much in tune with Southern California living" said Orchids & Onions program co-chair, David McCullough, who hailed the project as "A bold symphony of concrete, stone and steel."

Stone Brewing Co. CEO, Greg Koch was extremely pleased by the award, describing it as "an amazing compliment." After all, it seems only appropriate that a world-renowned brewery highly acclaimed for its bold and innovative beers, eclectic dining experience, and environmentally responsible philosophies should approach the design and construction of its new home in the same spirit.

The Stone Brewing Co. wishes to acknowledge Lead Architect Andy Kjellberg of McArdle Associates Architects, general contractor Hamann Construction, and restaurant design consultant David Robinson of David Robinson Design for helping to realize Koch's vision for the restaurant that he described as "Industrial decomposing into organic."

Since 1976 Orchids & Onions has been a highly regarded awards program that has striven to promote public awareness and discussion of design excellence in architecture. In addition to a selected jury of experts, locals are also invited to give either an orchid (thumbs up) or an onion (thumbs down) to new and distinctive features of San Diego County's built landscape.
