Left Hand Brewing President Finally Cracks Longmont Brewery releases seasonal offering – Widdershins Barleywine (LONGMONT, CO) – Man can only take so much stress in his life. With the advent of the cost increases to barley and hops hitting markets across the country this month, Eric Wallace, President of Left Hand Brewing Company, finally snapped. Early on Wednesday, January 2nd, he swiftly walked into the brewery wearing his full Scottish Tartanware and 52” Scottish Great Claymore Sword swinging over his head. “Sons of Longmont! I am Eric Wallace!” he cried. Obviously, it created quite a stir for employees and Tasting Room customers alike. ““We all saw it coming – he was walking around the brewery for weeks talking to himself. I’ve even seen him cursing the skies” said Joe Schiraldi, VP of Brewing Operations for the brewery. “The only way we could calm him down was to give him a few pints of our newly released Widdershins Barleywine.” Released late last week for the cold winter months ahead, Widdershins Barleywine is counterclockwise to the traditional American style barleywines, as it was designed to be rounder and smoother than some less refined versions. Widdershins pours light copper in color, with a fluffy white head that leaves behind a tenacious lacing that just doesn’t seem to fade. Fruity notes of orange and apricot are present upfront, garlanded with earthy hoppiness on the backside. Aged in French Oak Red Wine barrels for eight months and blended to woody perfection, Widdershins screams for “FREEDOM” with 9.1% alcohol by volume and 70 IBU’s. And before anybody could stop him, Eric Wallace stormed back through the brewery with blue paint streaked across his face, yelling “Aye, here are Left Hand’s terms: Lower your IBU’s and march straight back to wherever you came from. Stop at every home you pass by and ask their forgiveness. Do that, and your palates shall live. Do it not, and everyone of you will die today.” He was last seen running down Main Street. The full-bodied barleywine is available in the brewery’s 750ml silk-screened Belgian beer bottle and kegs, and will be available in Colorado, Arizona, Florida (Fort Lauderdale/Miami), Georgia, Indiana, Illinois, Kansas, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Carolina, New York (Long Island and Upstate), Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Tennessee (Nashville), Texas, Virginia, Washington (Seattle & Tacoma), Wisconsin and select countries throughout Europe. And as we’ve heard before, we all end up dead, it’s just a question of how and why. Just be sure it’s after you enjoy a bottle of Widdershins Barleywine!
