On December 26, 1987, Anderson Valley Brewing Company (AVBC) was launched when Dr. Kenneth Allen began making and selling beer from the lower level of The Buckhorn Saloon in Boonville. Carefully brewed in vats and tanks designed by Dr. Allen, AVBC’s award-winning ales grew increasingly popular, eventually exceeding the small ten-barrel brewery’s capacity. In 1996, AVBC moved into their current eco-friendly facility just south of Boonville, California and two years later AVBC’s production grew to 15,000 barrels a year. Fast-forward ten more years and AVBC is now producing 25,000 barrels a year, their three-story Bavarian-style brew house filled with old-fashioned copper kettles Dr. Allen brought back from Germany. AVBC has twice won placement among the World Beer Championships® Top Ten Breweries of the Year, and has since become one of the Anderson Valley’s prime tourist destinations. In keeping with its unspoiled surroundings, AVBC’s grounds have since been converted into picnic groves, an 18-hole disc golf course, and pastures for the enormous Shire horses who pull passengers and local beer deliveries around Boonville in the brewery’s carriage.
